This is my first prospect list. Please share any feedback.
1) Derek Norris, C, Grade B+: It was tough picking the #1 guy, but ultimately I went with Norris. Norris, 20, who was drafted in the 4th round of the 2007 amateur entry draft, broke out in 2009 at A-Ball hitting .286, with 23 HR's, 84 RBI's, and an OPS of 926 in 126 games. He's currently slotted as the National's catcher of the future but could end up at 1B eventually if the Nats take Bryce Harper #1 overall in 2010.
2) Tyler Flowers, C, Grade B+: The soon-to-be 24 year old Flowers tore up AA pitching in 77 games there in 2009. Production tailed off a bit in AAA, but I wouldn't pay attention to his AAA numbers that much. Had it not been for reports that his D is at least solid enough for him to stick at catcher, he'd drop to a B.
3) Mike Trout, OF, Grade B+: I absolutely love Trout. He was one of my favorite guys in the 2009 draft and is a legitimate 5 tool threat. Impressive pro debut and Jim Edmonds comparisons make me like him even more.
4) Daniel Hudson, RHP, Grade B+: A 5th Round pick in 2008, Hudson rose quickly through the White Sox system in 2009, going from A-Ball to the Majors. I really like him but don't love him. Possible solid #2 starter if things go well. His stuff was electric when I saw him pitch a few times after his call-up.
5) Jared Mitchell, OF, Grade B: Mitchell is still raw, but I love his ceiling. He has a chance to be special depending on how his development goes.
6) Wil Myers, C, Grade B: The extremely athletic Myers could move to the OF if the Royals so choose. Great bat and I love the ceiling/athleticism. Strong pro debut.
7) Danny Duffy, LHP, Grade B: After pitching all of 2009 at A+, this southpaw will probably start 2010 at AA. A very solid prospect, Duffy can be a pretty solid #2 starter at the Major League level.
8) Tim Melville, RHP, Grade B: The #1 prep arm in the 2008 draft, Melville signed with the Royals after being drafted in the 4th round for $1,250,000. Melville had a pretty solid 2009 campaign and looks to be a future above-average starter at the ML level.
9) Ruben Tejada, SS, Grade B: The recently turned 20 year old Tejada played all season at AA ball in 2009 as a teenager and held his own. He still has lots of time to develop and could be Jose Reyes' eventual replacement if all goes well.
10) Scott Sizemore, 2B, Grade B: The 2B put up huge numbers for a middle infielder in 2009, hitting .307/.402/.535 in 59 games at AA and .308/.378/.473 at AAA. He's currently slotted as the Tigers 2010 starting 2B and could be a solid contributor next season.
11) Mike Minor, LHP, Grade B: Will never be an ace, but should have a pretty solid career. Went with him over James do to polish.
12) Chad James, LHP, Grade B: Has some pretty good stuff, could be special. His pitching arsenal features a nasty curveball, and his upside is pretty good.
13) Matt Dominguez, 3B, Grade B: Dominguez had a pretty lackluster 2009 campaign between A+ and AA Ball but I still gave him a B based on the potential he flashed in his 2008 campaign.
14) Brent Morel, 3B, Grade B-: Morel reminds me a lot of another former White Sox draftee, Joe Crede.Very good defensively, solid with the bat, and clutch. I just hope he stays healthy, unlike Crede.
15) Nick Barnese, RHP, Grade B-: Numbers have been pretty good in his career so far, but I want to see his performance at higher levels before I become a true believer.
16) Jordan Danks, OF, Grade B-: The toolsy Danks is one of my favorite prospects. I think his numbers at AA were fluky due to injury over the summer. I personally see a potential Grady Sizemore with a lot less power. Both are toolsy, athletic, and K a ton. But that's probably me overrating him.
17) Dayan Viciedo, 3B, Grade B-: I'm totally ignoring "The Cuban Babe Ruth's" numbers for 2009 and I'd rather look to 2010 with him. He was just 20, in a new country and culture, and getting used to the way his new coaches teach things. And still, his numbers weren't even that bad. He just didn't meet expectations with the title of "The Cuban Babe Ruth." 2010 is crucial.
18) Alex Avila, C, Grade B-: Avila rose quickly since his pro debut and showed lots of power in a small sample size in his ML debut. Need to see what he does in 2010.
19) Reymond Fuentes, OF, Grade B-: Athletic outfielder taken in the late part of the 1st round in the 2009 draft. Cousin of Carlos Beltran. I like the Jacoby Ellsbury comparisons and I think he ends up being a pesky type of player, just like Ellsbury.
20) Miguel Sano, SS, Grade B-: The high profile Latin talent is currently a shortstop but projects to be a 3B or LF in the Majors. Need to see performance data before ranking higher.
Other B-'s; Wagner Mateo, OF; Ian Desmond, SS; Ryan Strieby, 1B.
