Would players that go into free agency before the coming year still give us the 15% home town discount? That is to say, I can't keep Cliff Lee next year, but can I get him back on a "cheaper" deal?

Yes, that is correct.

Thank you. One more question (sorry!).
Do you have to keep all players who are under 6 years of service, or can you non tender players that you don't feel would be useful. Sorry if this has been asked before.

Yeah you can just leave then off of your roster. And they will be eligible for free agency when it starts. I need to double check this though.

Apologies in advance for my ignorance! here goes...
Following our upcoming initial draft. are there any parameters other than the $100m salary cap that we must consider when giving contracts to players.
e.g. Suppose I draft Jeter at 1.14, is there a salary min floor/max ceiling in terms of overall salary and years?
Thanks so much Mac

The draft is for higschool/college players not MLB players. Can you clarify a bit?

Once someone aquires Jeter (or any FA), are there any contract limits for him, or can he be given any length deal for any amount of salary (high or low)? Is it simply the same as future years FA's? I know in future years FA acquisition salaries are tied to other Owners offers, right?

I think there is a section in the league rules about this.

My understanding is that the only players available for the draft in the minors currently, will be anyone that was in the most recent draft (2009) - For clarification that would be anyone in the draft that started with the Nationals taking Stephen Strasburg.
Commish can verify, but I think that's how I've read it.

Everyone that is not protected by their current teams. Only players with 6 years or less service time, plus one franchise player, can be protected.
Example:
The Yankees can't protect CC Sabathia, because he already has over 6 years service time. They can franchise him, at a cost of $10 M for one season. But they cannot franchise another player if they do that. He is not eligible to be drafted in the upcoming draft, as he was not eligible for the 2009 First Year Players' draft. He will go into the free agent pool, and we will all be able to bid on him.
The Nationals can't protect Stephen Strasburg, because he was drafted in 2009 in the First Year Player's draft. He is eligible to be drafted, and if he goes undrafted he will be a free agent.
Does that help clarify a little?

So Buster Posey, and Jason Heyward are protected since they have less than six years of 130+ AB and were not drafted in 09.
Do I have it?
